San Francisco Atty and Fil-Am Activist Ted Laguatan to speak to US Democrats Abroad Philippines on Aug 16; Tv white space technology pang internet operational na sa visayas at Habagat nanalasa sa Central Luzon at Calabarzon, Bataan at Cavite hindi pinatawad

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, US Democrats Abroad in the Philippines will meet at 4 p.m. at the Elks Club in Makati to hear notable San Francisco-based Filipino-American attorney Ted Laguatan share his views on the Philippine-China-US relationship. He will also talk on immigration issues in the US, how they relate to Filipinos, and why US Democratic Party initiatives are best for the United States as well as the Philippines.

Ted is a high profile Filipino-American immigration and human rights attorney in the United States. He is a founding member of US Pinoys for Good Governance, a prominent US-based group dedicated to working toward the highest standards of governance and morality in Philippine government.

Ted was invited by President Aquino and President Obama and attended the recent state dinner in honor of the US Presidential visit last April.

Ted has been a strong advocate of preventing China from taking over valuable Philippine energy and marine resources that will benefit generations of Filipinos. Together with Loida Nicholas Lewis, a wealthy Filipino-American woman, and Rodel Rodis, a well-known long time activist lawyer, he has organized rallies worldwide against China’s intrusion into Philippine territories

A graduate of Ateneo who received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from the University of the Philippines, Ted received his law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He also did graduate work at Northwestern University in Chicago.The Saturday, August 16 meeting will be held at 4pm in the Elks Club located on the Seventh floor of the Corinthian Plaza at 111 Paseo de Roxas, Legaspi Village, Makati. Ted Laguatan is a contributor to the Philippine Daily Inquirer and a fellow US Democratic Party member.

Attorney Laguatan heads an ethics based law firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is honored by the California State Bar as among the best of the best lawyers in America. He is one of only 29 California lawyers officially certified continuously for 25 years as experts in Immigration Law.

In a case known as the Matter of Salta, a 2001 case, which is in the law books and frequently cited by lawyers and judges, he went against the U.S. government and kept thousands of undocumented immigrants and their families whose Constitutional rights were being violated from being summarily deported. Most of these are now U.S. citizens.

He wrote a book on immigration law and is a regular columnist for various publications including the Internet edition of the Philippine Daily Inquirer which has a readership of millions.

He is the national co-founder, Legal Counsel, and Spokesperson of the influential US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG) . Together with Loida Nicolas Lewis, a wealthy Filipino-American woman, and Rodel Rodis, a well-known long time activist lawyer, he also founded the Global Filipino Diaspora Council (GFDC) and helped Filipinos in Europe to establish the European Network of Filipinos in the Diaspora (ENFID), the only umbrella organization of Filipinos in Europe.

Next month, on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 4 p.m., Democrats Abroad Philippines will hold its next meeting that will include a discussion lead by the Chair of Democrats Abroad in the Philippines, John Boyd, on why Democrats will win in the elections this November and November 2016. That September 6 meeting will also provide assistance to those who wish to register to vote from abroad in the November 2014 election. (Irene Donohue)

 Tv white space technology pang internet operational na sa visayas 

OPERATIONAL na sa Bohol ang teknolohiyang maaring mag revolutionize sa broadband access sa kanayunan. Ayon sa Information and Communication Technology Office sa ilalim ng Department of Science and Technology isang ipinagmamalaking inobasyon sa bahagi ng makabagong komunikasyon
ang TV White Space Broadband Technology.

Sa pamamagitan nito ay maaring gamitin para sa internet connectivity ang mga hindi nagagamit na signals ng ating mga analog television. Kayang tumagos ng signals nito kahit may mga kakahuyan, kabundukan at mga istruktura bagay na di kayang gawin ng karaniwang internet signals.

Dahil maraming lugar sa bansa ang mahina o halos walang signal ang internet o walang internet connections, kinailangang ipatupad ang nasabing proyekto ng kagawaran ng agham dahil ayon sa United Nations, ang access sa internet ay isang pangunahing karapatang pantao.

Sa nakarang National Science and Technology Week ay ipinakita ang birds eye view ng extent ng tv white space at ang maari nitong maabot sakaling fuly implemented na sa maraming bahagi ng bansa. Ang Pilipinas ay isang maritime nation at maraming isla sa bansa ang walang telepono, sa isang preview ng nasabing teknoohiya sa ibayong dagat, ipinakiitang maari ding gamitin ang tv white spaces sa voice communications (Jane Balaguer)

Habagat nanalasa sa Central Luzon at Calabarzon, Bataan at Cavite hindi pinatawad

BAHA pa rin hanggang ngayon ang malaking bahagi nang bayan ng Hermosa sa lalawigan ng Bataan bunsod nang pananalasa ng Bagyong Inday kasabay ng habagat. Samantala, sa kabilang bahagi ng look ng Maynila ay ang lalawigan ng Cavite na siyang kagaya ng Bataan ay naapektuhan rin.

Lubog sa tubig baha at walang pasok ang mga bata sa iskwelahan ng nasabing mga lalawigan habang ang mga residente duon at mga mamamayang nagtatrabaho sa labas ng nasabing mga lalawigan ay pinag iingat ng kanilang mga pamahalaang lokal.

Dahil ang dalawang lalawigan ay pinagigitnaan ng look ng Maynila at marami ring mga mamamalakaya sa kanilang lugar patuloy naman rin ilang pinag iingat ang mga papalaot sa kabila ng maaring tumaas ang alon kahit abiso ng PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration-Department of Science and Technology) na hindi masyadong madaram ang epekto ng pumasok na bagyong Jose.

Kaugnay nito ay ginanap rin sa punong tangapan ng PAGASA sa lungsod Quezon ang anibersaryo ng Project NOAH kamakailan at kanilang ipinamalas ang ma naitulong nito sa mga LGU lalo sa Marikina bilang bahagi ng disaster mitigation and adaptation.
