DOST V – Regional Metrology Labroatory adopts new standard rates for testing and calibration services
The Regional Metrology Laboratory of the Department of Science and
Technology Region V (DOST V-RML), an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited service
facility is maintained to carry out testing and calibration. RML is
situated at DOST V, Regional Center Site, Rawis, Legazpi City, soon to be
housed in the new S&T Laboratory Building at the back of the environment
from the harmful effects of inaccurate or false measurements.
Pursant to Administrative Order dated 02 August 2018 issued by Secretary
Fortunato T. De La Pena, DOST, DOST V-RML now adopts the standard
calibration fees for prescribed measures and tests from the National
Metrology Laboratory (NML) effective 03 January 2019.

DOST V supports Irigueno PWDs through Technology Training cum Banana Chips Production
The Department of Science and Technology V (DOST V) thru the Provincial
Science and Technology Center – Camarines Sur (PSTC-CamSur) conducted the
“Technology Training Cum Banana Chips Production in Supports to PWDs “on 12
December 2018 in Barangay La Purisima, Iriga City.
The training is in Consonance with Proclamation No. 668 of Malacanang
Palace by the President of the Philippines “Declaring the period of
2013-2022 as the Philippine Decade of ‘Make the Right Real’ for persons
with Disabilities”, which enjoins, among others, departments of the
national government to implement plans, programs, and activities geared
towards the development of PWDs in accordance with the Incheon Strategy.
Fourteen (14) Irigueno participants including ten (10) youth who are deaf,
1 with strabismus, and 2 senior citizens partook in the training. They were
invited to the activity through Handtalkers, an Iriga-based startup
enterprise engaged in banana chips production. It is run by Mr.
Thelmo Ciron who has 3 deaf children, the youngest of which helps in the
production of banana chips.
The training covered banana chips processing, basic food safety and
introduction to good manufacturing practices (GMP) with Ms. Patrocinio N.
Felizmenio, Senior Science Research Specialist and Provincial Science and
Technology, Director of Camarines Sur as Resource Speaker.
After the lecture, the training covered banana chips processing, basic food

After the lecture, the training proceeded to demonstration of processing of
banana chips. Ms Maurice A. Comia, Project Assistant II, PSTC-CamSur showed
the step by step process and imparted important pointers during processing.
The training was smoothly faciliated through the help of Mr. Ronnie R.
Dait, Department of Education Special Education Teacher at San Agustin
(Stand Alone) Senior High School in Iriga City, who served as sign language
interpreter during the whole session.
In the afternoon session, Dir. Felizmenio and Engr. Ernesto A. Reyes, Jr.,
Science Research Specialist II, PSTC-CamSur turned over banana chips
processing equipment and materials to Mr. Ciron for the improvement of
Handtalkers’ banana chip production.
The PWD youth was a mix of students currently enrolled in regular senior
high school and out-of-school youths who could use the skills and knowledge
acquired from the training for future employment or to start their very own
