Nuclear Medicine at affordable cost

 

PET (Positron Emission Tomography) imaging will soon be affordable for patients at a reasonable price. In the situation of the country right now only the rich can avail of the PET scan. Even in the Philippine General Hospital which is under the University of the Philippine College of Medicine, they do not have a PET scan.

In the presentation of DOST Balik Scientist Dr. Thomas Pascual on the topic of Nuclear S&T Applications in Health and Medicine during the Nuclear 101 Media Awareness Seminar.

The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) soon will build a cyclotron facility and PET imaging inside its premises. That will surely help to diagnose not only cancer patients but also identify dementia.

Dr. Pascual also Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla, Director of PNRI wants to include PET scan in the PhilHealth payment system as preventive medicine. (MJ O. Balaguer DZMJ ONLINE)
