CITY OF MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is in full preparation mode for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections set for November 2, 2026, alongside the historic first BARMM Parliamentary Elections, Comelec Chairman Hon. George Erwin Garcia announced Tuesday, August 12, 2026, during the Kapihan sa Manila Hotel forum at the Roma Salon.
Hosted by Former Senator Atty. Joey Lina and Former Presidential Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma, the session highlighted key updates on the country’s electoral calendar.
🗳️ Barangay & SK Elections
Chairman Garcia confirmed the nationwide Barangay and SK Elections are scheduled for November 2, 2026. The Comelec has so far utilized ₱8 billion of its total ₱19 billion budget for the electoral process. Of the estimated 70 million voting population, around 3 million voters have been removed from the official list.
🌍 Historic BARMM Parliament Election
The first regular election for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliament is set for the second Monday of September 2026, following the signing of Republic Act No. 12317 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The law extends the transition period, allowing the interim Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) to continue governing until replaced.
Elected BARMM officials will serve from noon of October 30, 2026, until June 30, 2031. Pilot voting tests have been conducted in Maguindanao and Tawi-Tawi. The region currently has 2.3 million registered voters across 105 municipalities.
⚖️ Key Updates
– Electoral Personnel: No election-related complaints involving public school teachers were recorded in the 2022 elections.
- Vote-Buying Cases: Around 400 cases related to alleged vote-buying during the 2025 Midterm Elections remain pending.
- Campaign Materials: Starting August 12, the Comelec began removing illegal campaign materials in BARMM, particularly in public places such as parks and streets, with no discretion on public property.
– SK Advocacy: Chairman Garcia urged the youth to preserve the Sangguniang Kabataan, noting that SK bodies operate under barangay supervision, referencing the original SK Law championed by Former Senator Lina.
